COLCHESTER, ENGLAND Two manufacturers of laminated tube packaging have been combined by their owner, Sun European Partners LLP. The London–based investment firm announced Jan. 26 that Albéa Group –– the former Alcan Packaging Beauty business –– has acquired England’s Betts Group.
According to the release, the acquisition of Colchester–based Betts by the newly–named Albéa Group reinforces its position in emerging markets –– especially India –– to develop its product portfolio across personal care market segments including make–up, skincare, fragrance and oral care.
“The companies have complementary technologies, geographical footprint, product portfolio and [research and development] resources that will enable the combined entity to provide a broader product offering, increased innovation and development capacity, and a more versatile, global manufacturing footprint,” Francois Luscan, president and CEO of Gennevilliers, France–based Albéa, said in the release.
Albéa operates 31 plants in 13 countries. Six of those plants are the recently–acquired Betts properties in the United Kingdom, Poland, Mexico, India and Indonesia.
Sun European Partners is a subsidiary of Boca Raton, Fla.–based Sun Capital Partners Inc., which acquired the former Alcan business from London–based international mining conglomerate Rio Tinto plc.
During the same period, Sun also bought Betts and Reuther Verpackung GmbH & Co. KG, a Neuwied, Germany, based printer and converter of flexible packaging.
